March 2010
Samsonov with Lucy Pawlak is an ongoing project - an epic sitcom exploring the adventures a family of four. An installment, The Inspection House, was recently screened at Karma International, Zurich. Plans are underway for further filming in Poland in Autumn this year, while plans for a live performance for the group show Prop in June 2010 is underway. I am constantly excited and inspired by Lucy's work and am very priviledged to be working collaboratively with her.
Trains with Aliakbar Campwala was shot in February 2010 in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysian TV leading man Jefri Jefrizal. Made specifically for the Filmaka Wild Card 'Jury Level' Prize, it was my first Malay-language short. Watch on vimeo here. Ali's feature Rojak is in pre-production and will be filming in London and Kuala Lumpur this summer. Ali is tremendous fun and it's great to work with someone who goes in for the kill when it comes to writing a tight little story.
Truth Beauty is a feature in pre-production for Summer 2010, shooting in London and Poland. The wonderful Iain Weatherby and friends won a tremendous award - First Prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival - with their Anchovy Pictures debut, Oscar and Jim
Ferriby Towers was shot in chilly Leeds over three frenetically charged days with the wonderful cast and crew of this year's BBC/Actors Centre Talent Boost. We were incredibly fortunate to have Sue Dunderdale direct. It will be screened early Summer, and I can't wait. It's the first time I play an actual grown up with a proper job and everything. Oh, the irony!
Mansfield Park and Ride Now that Spring has sprung, with Leeds, an extended tropical holiday, and many, many table readings since, the Eastern Angles Christmas show seems a lifetime ago. I miss all the bonneted volunteers, the wonderful staff, the residents of the Sue Ryder care home, and the incredible audiences. A special thanks to the audience: My cries for "Alms for the poor!" were answered so delightfully and the collection went to Sue Ryder residents after I got to know them during my visits there.
A Single Guy premiered at The Detroit International Film Festival.
